HO'OLAULEA

by Jasmine

This upcoming Saturday (Sept. 25), the 17th annual KWXX Ho’olaulea will be happening at down town Hilo! Are you excited? Cause I sure am!! There’s going to be 3 stages with great bands playing from all over the islands. Also there will be great food, crafts, and of course MUSIC! It’s a free event so bring the whole family down for a great and fun night! This is one of the biggest events that happen every year here on the Big Island. Hopefully this year the rain won’t come down on us. But with or without rain, still many people attend this event because of the great entertainment, food, and to socialize with friends! I know I surely have a great time when I go!

Milolii

by Jasmine

This past Labor Day weekend I camped at Milolii. Milolii is located 33 miles south of Kona. It is one of the last Hawaiian fishing villages. There is no water or electricity down there. The people that live in Milolii have solar panels and tanks that collect rain water. The weather is very dry, very sunny. It’s a cultural area. All who live there consider themselves part of one family; they all help each other when in need.

My experience down in Milolii was so much fun. The water there is calm and there is much life in the water. It was a unique experience for me. With no electricity and no running water, it was different from my everyday life, but different in a fun and good way. I had my first diving experience at Milolii. There were so much fish compared to our East side of the island. I also caught a few lobsters. The only thing I did not like about Milolii is the drive down. There are so many blind turns, and it's so curvy, I got car sick. Other than that, it was a great experience.
